Frequently Asked Questions . . .
Venetian Crete in use!

  • Where can I purchase Venetian Crete?
    • You may purchase online or call 800-300-4820, which is our direct purchase line.
  • How do I know if Venetian Crete will stick to my floor?
    • We always suggest doing a water test by sprinkling water on your clean, dry floor. If the water penetrates and the floor darkens, your floor is porous and should accept Venetian Crete.
  • If I have carpet adhesives, gouts, and other foreign materials, can I still use Venetian Crete?
    • Venetian Crete has exceptional adhesion qualities, but the bond strength of Venetian Crete is dependent on the bond of the foreign material. If the bond of the foreign material is not known, we strongly suggest it be removed.
  • How do I calculate Venetian Crete on my job?
    • If you have a relatively smooth surface that is not sealed, you can figure 150 square feet per kit when applied in 3 applications. Remember, the 3 coats are to be applied at approximately 20 mils, or the thickness of a credit card. (Combined thickness)
  • Does Venetian Crete have to be applied by a trowel?
    • Venetian Crete can be applied by trowel, drywall flex-broad knifes, squeegees, rollers, or sponges. Remember Venetian Crete is an artistic product, so your possibilities are limitless.
  • Can universal colorants be used in Venetian Crete?
    • Yes, but do not exceed 10 oz. of color per gallon of Venetian Liquid. Colorant always gets added to the liquid, then slowly added to the powder.
  • Can Venetian Crete be used to level uneven or spalled floors?
    • No, typically floors should be leveled using Venetian 1st Coat Leveler, then followed by 2 to 3 coats of Venetian Crete. Venetian 1st Coat Leveler is usually applied at approximately 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch. See specification sheet on Venetian 1st Coat Leveler.
  • Can Chemical Stains be used with Venetian Crete?
    • Yes, Venetian Crete takes "acid stains" very well. We suggest using Kemiko acid stains. You may want to try making color samples to check your specific job. It's always good to have clients approve color sample boards.
  • How do I get better coverage applying Venetian Crete over very porous surfaces like "broom finished" concrete?
    • Apply Venetian Polymer to concrete with a fine bristle-broom or a roller in a very thin coat. The product goes on milky and dries clear in approximately 1 to 2 hours. When walking back over dried primer, use spiked shoes to keep from pulling up dried primer. Apply Venetian Crete directly over primer.
  • Does Venetian Crete have to be sealed?
    • Yes, always seal Venetian Crete after allowing it to dry overnight. If chemically acid staining with Kemiko, allow the surface to dry overnight after complete removal of all residue. You can use either waterborne or solvent acrylic. Solvent acrylic will bring out more vibrant colors, but waterborne colors have less odor. Both Venetian Crete sealers have a satin finish and can be further protected by acrylic floor finishes. (High solid waxes)
  • Why would I use a floor wax over my sealer?
    • The function of the floor maintenance wax is to protect the sealer from scratching and being worn off. The floor wax can be applied by a mop (rayon is preferred) or use of a lamb's wool applicator. The floor finish is interior use only.
  • How do I apply acid stains to Venetian Crete?
